Farewell to two of my heroes: J.D. Salinger, author of several books, most notably the adolescent bible
Catcher in the Rye. He was 91. And farewell to Howard Zinn, author of the bestselling
A People's History of the United States. Zinn was 87, going on 37 - because he never let old age stop him from fighting the good fight. Both were great men in different ways. Both were nonconformists. Both helped open the eyes of millions of people through their writings. Both were uniquely American.
And both men will be sorely missed.
