Nothing Beats a Compassionate Spring Break

A big thumbs up to the 12 students from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, who are using their spring break to volunteer at Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York. Pictured here is Anna Robinson of Xavier, doing her part to help the wonderful animals. These students have opted to work at the Farm Sanctuary's 179-acre farm as part of their "Alternative Spring Break." I have blogged many times about this wonderful organization, which provides a spacious, healthy and loving home some 800 beautiful farm animals. The folks at Farm Sanctuary are such an inspiration because they show there is a different way - a better way - for humans and animals to interact. The animals all have amazing and moving stories, which are told on the Farm Sanctuary website. The "Alternative Spring Break" just goes to show that a lot of people are fighting the good fight for animals. No matter where you look - in the United States, Canada, and all around the world - people are showing with their words and deeds that they love their fellow animals and will go out of their way to help. In a day and age when the brutality of factory farms and fur traps and laboratory testing all loom so large, it is essential to stop and remember the many simple acts of courage and kindness committed by true friends of the animals.
