Check it Out: Steve-O Speaks Out Against Factory Farming

Wonderful Steve-O, of Jackass fame (one of my guilty pleasures over the years), narrates a Farm Sanctuary video that looks absolutely extraordinary. It is the story of a pig, cow and chicken who manage to escape the horrors of factory farms. While I haven't seen it yet, I've watched plenty of other Farm Sanctuary videos, and I love the work they do.

In this interview with vegan and animal rights supporter Jane Velez-Mitchell, Steve-O discusses his efforts to humanize the three stars of the film. "Whenever you can even give one of these animals a name, I think you're doing something pretty major," he tells the Velez-Mitchell. "People don't want to think of their meal as a living thing that has a name or a personality or anything like that. By talking about just one pig, you really get through to people in a special way."

More Wisdom from Gene Baur and the Wonderful Folks at Farm Sanctuary

Once again, Farm Sanctuary's Gene Baur shoots down the myth of "Happy Cows" in this excellent - and very short - video shot in the American heartland, Kansas. Take out a minute and a half or so and watch it. Hear what Gene has to say. Gene is a real hero to the Animal Rights Movement. This summer, he and some of his Farm Sanctuary comrades are traveling across the country in what is known as the "Just Eats Tour" to promote animal rights and veganism.

And in case you haven't heard, Farm Sanctuary is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Last month, supporters of the organization held a lavish, celebrity-studded celebration at the Cipriani Wall Street restaurant in New York City to honor Farm Sanctuary's many wonderful achievements. Lots of celebrities turned up to dine on vegan meals and toast this wonderful group.

Hopefully, Farm Sanctuary will be around for another 25 years - and another 50, 100, 200 and more - years from now. America - and, indeed, the world - is blessed to have such a caring and visionary organization leading the way in the struggle for animal rights.

A Moving Video About the Dignity of Farm Animals

Have a look at this beautiful video, posted on YouTube, about a farm animal sanctuary. The video was posted in 2006. It is narrated by an adorable little boy who discusses the joys of encountering the animals on the farm. It's very moving and reminds us of the dignity of these magnificent creatures.
